Automation Systems

Automation Systems are an integral part of modern civilization and will be even more extensively utilized in the future. They can be complex and represent additional costs over traditional systems. They are, however, implemented on the basis that the benefits outweigh the costs. Some examples of these benefits are energy conservation, increased labor efficiency, preventative maintenance, health & safety, information gathering and fast response, in addition to going "where no one has ever gone before…"
From a PM perspective, one of the greatest challenges automation systems introduce into a project is their pervasive nature. They cross over numerous traditional work package boundaries and sub-trade boundaries, impacting scope, time, and cost in a significant way.
Automotive SIG

The AutoSIG provides a forum for the sharing of project management knowledge, practices, and skills within the automotive industry. Objectives include networking, developing standards and practices, developing technical papers, and working on special projects.
Configuration Management SIG

The Configuration Management Specific Interest Group (CMSIG) exists to provide its' membership a perspective of configuration management as it relates to project/program management. While Configuration Management is a distinct field in and of itself as is Master Scheduling, few will relate it to Project Management.
Consulting SIG

The Consulting Specific Interest Group exists to provide its members with the collateral, resources and services for furthering the practice of project management consulting. Consulting, whether performed as an individual or in a corporate environment, transcends all industries and requires a set of support elements addressed by this SIG.
Design-Procurement-Construction SIG

Professionals involved in the management of any phase of the process of creating physical structures of any type are in the Design-Procurement-Construction SIG . Members are involved in the development, design, engineering, procurement, and construction processes for projects involving buildings and facilities in the residential, commercial and industrial sectors worldwide.
Dispute Management

Simply put the credo of the Project Management Institute is promote, educate, develop and implement professional Project Management of the highest quality. There is a dark side to Project Management, though. This can be identified with one word, DISPUTES! Disputes are not a day-to-day, organized, cyclical or planned part of Project Management.
But when occurring, a dispute can proceed from difficult to catastrophic in its impact to a project. The purpose of the DISPUTE MANAGEMENT SIG is to add to the PMI pantheon a positive forum to promote, educate, develop and implement professional management of disputes in managing projects!
Diversity SIG

The mission of the Diversity SIG is to identify, compile, develop and disseminate diversity information, guidelines and best practices related to project management for the benefit of both PMI & DSIG members and all industries utilizing project management and managers.
eBusiness SIG

Never before in the annals of modern project management history has an opportunity arisen that represents such a significant shift in how we conduct business in our global village then eBusiness. All the norms and barriers to the business will, in the not too distant future, be discarded or replaced at speeds that will boggle the mind.
Those businesses that recognize this shift will have a distinct advantage, but recognition alone will not guarantee their survival. The intent is to bring e-business to the forefront of project and program managers alike and develop a medium to share knowledge and wisdom about the art and science of e-business developed through PMI.

Healthcare Project Management

The Health Care Industry is changing like never before, and is beginning to recognize the need for project managers. For example, today the health care industry is largely paper-based (except for the retail pharmacy industry, which is light years ahead in conducting electronic transactions).
There is a regulation that was recently released that will mandate the use of standard electronic transactions. This is a huge culture shift for the health care industry! We would like to provide a SIG to support Project Management professionals to address these industry-specific types of issues.
Hospitality Management SIG

This SIG is dedicated to introducing project management processes to professionals in this field and to demonstrate the benefit of using the project management discipline as an approach to doing business. It will also serve to offer an alternative for full integration of business activities and provide a link to those operations offering ancillary services.

Information Technology & Telecommunications SIG

The Information Technology & Telecommunications industry is composed of companies and individuals involved with technologies that include voice/data/video transmission and switching (e.g. analog, digital, terrestrial, satellite, microwave, fiber-optic), end users of the deliverables and infrastructure providers.
International Development SIG

The International Development SIG (Internationally Funded Projects in the Public Sector in Developing Countries) focuses on the specific and specialized project management needs and issues of this sub-group within project management.
The International Development SIG is comprised of professionals from the lending organizations, NGOs, and independent professionals with experience in PM in developing countries in order to explore ways to define the unique nature of international development project management. Future activities include plans to contact the PMI Standards Department and Standards Member Advisory Group to explore the best way to develop an International Development Project Management Extension to the PMI PMBOK® Guide and promoting quality training.

The NPD SIG is for individuals involved in the development and introduction of new products, processes, and services in all industries and sectors. The NPD SIG was formed to provide a mechanism for networking and for working together to improve the management of new product projects.

Oil, Gas & Petrochemical SIG Mission is to provide a recognized forum for the focus and exploration of ideas for applications and solutions to project management challenges related to the management of Oil, Gas, and Petrochemical projects. The Students of Project Management (SoPM) Specific Interest Group is being formed to address the interests, needs, and concerns of a growing population within PMI: students. The term 'student' is used in a broad manner here to mean anyone interested in learning more about project management. This could include, but is not limited to, practitioners, educators, life-long learners, and of course, 'traditional' students who may be enrolled in business and project management programs. Including all of these diverse groups will enable the SIG to foster a rich learning environment for all.
Troubled Projects SIG

The objective of the Troubled Project Recovery SIG will be to:
- Provide a forum and focus group for all project management professionals interested in the topic
